Welcome to Faversham Piano! My name is Katy Collins, I teach piano and music theory lessons to all ages, from my home and in Lorenden Prep School. I also run group music classes for children from birth to 12.

I aim to build happy, confident and independent musicians, with a broad range of skills. Pupils have regular opportunities to perform, play in ensembles, participate in wider competitions and events, take grade exams and come together for group lessons.

Please see fees for information on prices and current availability.

Panel 1

Beginners

Children can begin individual piano lessons from the age of 4. Young children will follow a colourful, fun curriculum while they progress through the early stages of learning. I am trained in the Kodaly approach for teaching musicianship to young children. Beginners build a strong foundation in general music skills through songs, games and occasional group lessons.

Most lessons for beginners are 30 minutes long, and can take place once or twice a week.

Panel 2

Intermediates- Advanced

Once pupils have been learning for a number of years and have progressed through the early levels of learning, they are able to take advantage of wider opportunities to share their playing with others. They can take Graded exams though Trinity College, and perform and compete in the Kent and North Kent Festivals.

Lessons for intermediate and advanced pupils are designed for their strengths and interests. Pupils can learn a wide range of repertoire from classical to pop, and will continue to build all round skills in improvisation and compositon. Group lessons take place to give them the opportunity to work on theory and learn duet and trio ensembles.

Intermediate lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes long, and take place once a week. Advanced students at Grade 7 and beyond are recommended to have a minimum of 60 minutes a week.

Panel 3

Adults

It’s never too late to learn the piano! Current pupils range from 4 – 60+ and many have found that with retirement or their own children leaving home, it gives them more free time to dedicate to a new interest or lifelong dream. Lessons for adults are designed to suit your needs and interests- no pressure is put on you to perform or take exams- though you are of course welcome to!

Lessons for adults are 30/ 45 or 60 minutes and usually take place once a week- however do get in touch if you have specific requirements.
